A Tumour, clinically termed as Neoplasm, is an abnormal mass of tissue that may be solid or fluid-filled. A brain tumour occurs when unnecessary growth of cells is triggered within any part of the Brain forming lumps or masses. The incidence of tumours in the CNS (Central Nervous System) in India ranges from 5 to 10 per 100,000 people, with an increasing trend of 2% malignancies. A malignant brain tumour is most common among children and adolescent population. The exact cause of brain tumour is unknown, although mostly observed reasons are genetic factors, exposure to harmful radiation, HIV infection, smoking and various environmental toxins.

Living with tumour presents many challenges to the affected individual in leading a normal life. While the physical impact of the tumour is certainly painful, the condition is aggravated by the stress and mental disturbances that the person goes through.
