Gleneagles Global Health City, organized a ‘Pink March’ to create awareness about breast cancer. More than 200 participants including, doctors and staff of Gleneagles Global Health City and students from various colleges in the city volunteered for this cause. The event ended with the release of a book named ‘Prerna’, at the hospital auditorium. Prerna is a compilation of heart-warming real life stories of breast cancer survivors.
Statistics show that 1 in 28 women suffer from breast cancer. 50% of Indian women still die of breast cancer because of presentation at advanced stage. Innovative interventions in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment may improve patients ’survival and quality of life, but such improvements may come with a substantial cost. Prof. Dr. Rajasundaram, Director, Global Institute of Oncology & Head-Surgical oncologist, Gleneagles Global Health City Chennai led the breast cancer awareness walk and launch of ‘Prerna’ early this morning.
Speaking on the occasion, he said. “Breast cancer is the second largest cause of cancer related deaths in India. High index of suspicion of cancer, early diagnosis, early referral, and fast tracking work up of the breast cancer patients for further definitive treatment would all make the treatment easy, patient friendly and cost effective too. Unnecessary delay in diagnosis and work up on for further treatment make the breast cancer to progress to an advance disease. Then treatment becomes complex and the cost also becomes higher. Early diagnosis and treatment at a comprehensive cancer center will definitely improve the survival rate of breast cancer patients. Global Institute of Oncology at Gleneagles Global Health City addresses these issues as their primary objective with globally renowned expert’s giving comprehensive cancer care”.
“Early detection is the key factor to void off breast cancer completely, even before it inflicts damage to the health of our loved ones. Most of them realize the situation Breast cancer in advanced stage be aware and save lives of women who support us “Said Colonel Hemraj Parmar, COO Gleneagles Global Health City.
