Iron deficiency is the most common cause of low hemoglobin levels. Consume iron-based foods like liver, red meat, spinach, tofu, almonds, dates, and oysters.
Folic acid, a B-complex vitamin, is required to increase the blood cell count. Food sources of folic acid are green leafy vegetables, sprouts, peanuts, bananas, broccoli and liver.
Beetroot is highly recommended to increase hemoglobin levels. It is rich in iron, folic acid as well as fiber and potassium. Its nutritional value helps increase the body’s red blood cell count.
Iron cannot be fully absorbed by the body without the help of Vitamin C. Eat foods rich in vitamin C like papaya, oranges, lemon, strawberries, broccoli, tomatoes and spinach.
An apple a day keeps the hemoglobin level normal as it is rich in iron. Add a little ginger or squeeze lemon into the apple and drink it twice daily.
Reduce your intake of coffee, tea and alcohol as this can interfere with the absorption of iron and reduce the blood cell count.
