A day in your life as a Doctor

Nothing you learn in medical school really prepares you for the transition into the role of a doctor. Whatever specialization you choose in medicine, you will still need to train in, and consider, primary care specialties. While the medical landscape keeps changing, you need to be abreast of healthcare reforms, new discoveries, newer technologies, newer methods of diagnosis and treatment but many things will remain the same—and it's important to know these things when contemplating a career in medicine.

As a Doctor at Gleneagles Global Hospitals, everyday you’re dealing with some of the most challenging heath situations but working with some of the most cutting-edge medical technologies and some of the finest colleagues. Complex surgeries, path-breaking procedures, colleagues who are the pioneers of their field – becomes your everyday life.

You will be actively involved in diagnosing, monitoring and providing general care to patients on hospital wards and in outpatient clinics, admitting patients requiring special care, followed by investigations and treatment, examining and talking to patients to diagnose their medical conditions, carrying out specific procedures, e.g. performing operations and specialist investigations, working with other doctors as part of a team, either in the same department or within other specialties, liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment, promoting health education, undertaking managerial responsibilities such as planning the workload and staffing of the department, especially at more senior levels, etc.

A day in your life as a Nurse

As a Nurse at Gleneagles Global Hospitals, you are at the forefront of our excellence in clinical efforts. You would be interacting the most with the patients, giving them not just medicinal supplements but also delivering empathy and care like few others do. You will make the greatest difference to someone’s life – on an everyday basis. To say nurses are busy throughout the day is an understatement. Each day is as re-energizing as it is tiring and your experience varies depending on where you sever in the ER, operation theatre, ICU, Wards, etc.

If you are a peri-operative nurse, you are a critical member of the surgical team and must think ahead and must stay one step ahead of the surgeon, by assisting him with the instrumentation at the right time. If you are a nurse in the emergency section, your day would be completely different. Every second is crucial to a patient’s survival, especially during the first stage of illness or injury and you must be very adept in handling the situation. Efficiency, focus, empathy, ability to multi-task, having presence of mind, being level headed are some of the most important characteristics of being a nurse. Though the days are long and exhausting on many levels, emergency nurses thrive on their ability to help patients in dire need- and that passion for helping others is what keeps them coming back to work every day.

A day in your life as a Medical Support Staff

As a Medical Support Staff at Gleneagles Global Hospitals you might be working behind the scenes but without your role almost everything can fall apart. You’re required for the delivery of the medical care that a patient needs and for the keeping up of the excellence in patient-experience we promise. It is your work that speaks for itself, every day. Right from the time a patient enters the hospital premises and is greeted at the reception, the medical support staff remains an integral part of a patient’s hospital stay and care.

Medical support assistants are the link between the patients and the physicians and ensure the smooth running of the medical facilities. They are in charge of assisting the physicians in medical procedures and have various administrative responsibilities. They can work in a variety of roles and locations with job titles ranging from unit secretary or medical office specialist to patient coordinator. They are responsible for a wide range of administrative tasks which includes, checking in patients at the front desk, scheduling patients for appointments, interviewing patients for case histories, compiling medical records, process billing and insurance, transfer lab results, maintain office supplies, maintain hygiene and cleanliness in the hospital premises, check and maintain technical equipment, etc. The successful round-the-clock operations at Gleneagles Global Hospitals are due to the tireless efforts of the Medical Support Staff.
